Green Manufacturing
Emissions
We've done a lot to reduce emissions from our manufacturing processes at Mohawk. From cutting water usage in half – to reducing phosphorous output by 70% at one of our plants, we're constantly innovating and refining our methods to make them as green as possible. We're serious about the environment and focused in our efforts to be a green manufacturer.
- Clean Air Class I – Our Glasgow, Virginia facility is a mandatory Clean Air Class I facility. This means it has to measure up to the very toughest federal standards for emissions of air pollutants. We're meeting the most stringent air pollution requirements in the carpet industry and are proud to be running our facility at such low emission levels.
- Water Reduce/Reuse – Through efficient, innovative manufacturing processes, we've been able to reduce the amount of water we use to make carpet by 50% from 1995 to 2003. That means a significant drop in overall water emissions as our sustainable methods decrease the total amount of water we use.
- Wetlands – We use water emissions from our Dublin, Georgia facility to create vibrant, healthy wetland habitats. The plants and wildlife that thrive in these effluent-fueled wetlands are a testament to the value we place on conservation and the environment.
- Phosphorus Reductions – In one year alone, we were able to achieve a 70% reduction in phosphorus output at our Dalton, Georgia facility. By introducing non-polluting components into our processes, we were able reduce the phosphorous in our waste stream – taking it well below the levels required for environmental compliance.
- Greenhouse Gas Reduction – By using a renewable energy source called Yellow Grease as boiler fuel, we can greatly reduce our use of natural gas and cut our emissions of Global warming chemicals by nearly 25%. So, what is Yellow Grease? It's the animal fat and cooking oil recovered from food processing.
