Carpet Cores
Made to last
Saving thousands of trees each year
At Mohawk we use our own manufacturing waste as well as other discarded waste to make plastic carpet cores that outperform and outlast regular cardboard cores in every way. How do we do it? We mix and extrude carpet edge trim, soft-drink bottle caps and labels, and the stretch film that is used as shrink-wrapping on shipping pallets. The result is highly durable plastic carpet cores. This saves more than 16 million pounds of wood and paper each year that would be required for cardboard cores – that's equivalent to thousands trees. These plastic cores have a life cycle that's three times longer than the industry standard for cores. Our plastic cores are also less likely to damage the carpets they hold. It all adds up to big savings for the environment and the consumer.
