Adhesives

If you're going to make a real difference for the environment, you have to look at everything. Not just the carpet itself, but also the adhesives that are used to hold it in place. At Mohawk, we have introduced a variety of innovative ideas to make carpet adhesives better for the environment, the consumer, and even the installer. Here are some of the things we're doing with adhesives to contribute to greater sustainability.

• Reducing VOC emissions – All our adhesives are Green Label Plus certified for volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions. Lower VOC emissions means higher indoor air quality for the end user.
• Combating moisture problems – Our adhesives further improve indoor air quality by preventing common moisture problems. Many contain antimicrobial agents to directly combat the buildup of mildew, mold, and other contaminations.
• Creating ergonomic installation solutions – We have introduced several new products that allow carpet to be installed quickly and easily, eliminating the need for installers to spend hours on their knees working with buckets and trowels.
• Adding ergonomic benefits for users – One of our recent innovations allows new carpet to be installed right on top of the old carpet, turning the old carpet into an extra layer of cushion that reduces leg and back fatigue for the end user while eliminating the dust and debris caused by removing old carpet.
• Lengthening the lifecycle – We have worked hard to develop products that provide much stronger adhesion even under the heaviest commercial use, thereby lengthening the life of the carpet and diverting more waste from landfills.
• Improving health and safety – We have specially designed many of our products to be non-flammable, non-toxic, and solvent free, significantly reducing the risk of fire hazards or health issues for end users.
