Encycle
Leading the way toward a greener world
The carpet tile that's 100% recyclable back into itself
Hard to imagine, isn't it? Encycle is the first and only non-PVC carpet tile that can be completely recycled back into itself in a single process. We call this "thermal re-activation." Encycle carpet that has reached the end of its useful life (which is, of course, a very long time) is melted down and made into new Encycle backing without ever separating the face fiber from the backing layers. Avoiding the separation process altogether allows us to use less energy and save resources in the recycling process. The reclamation and recycling of Encycle tiles is all handled by our unique ReCover program.
Successful dematerialization at work
Encycle is a 100% non-PVC thermoplastic modular backing technology. No PVC and no plasticizers in the carpet tiles means a more environmentally-friendly product and helps decrease our dependency on non-renewable petrochemicals. Encycle uses a minimum of 28% less virgin raw materials than its previous generation PVC modular carpet tiles. It contains 35% pre-consumer recycled content (by total product weight), and a minimum of 2% bio-based renewable content. This makes Encycle the perfect example of successful dematerialization - the development of product using fewer raw materials than earlier versions of the same product, yet performs as well or better than the previous versions.
Lighter tiles save even more
A standard shipment of 24-inch Encycle carpet tiles weighs approximately 16 pounds less than a similar box of PVC carpet tiles. That weight difference saves on shipping and fuel costs while also giving installers a more ergonomically friendly product to work with. Lighter carpet is easier on the installation team, so in addition to caring for nature, we're also watching out for another very important part of the environment: people.
