The backing that changed everything

Over 35 years ago we introduced a revolutionary new carpet backing called Unibond. As the industry's first high-performance backing system, this product virtually eliminated problems such as edge ravel, zippering, loss of tuft bind, and moisture penetration. However, just having a top-performing product wasn't enough for us. So we began working on a product that would provide all the same performance benefits while significantly reducing the impact on the environment. The result was Unibond U2.

Saving 10 million pounds of petrochemicals each year

Unibond U2 only uses about half the amount of petrochemicals that were required to manufacture the original Unibond - a reduction of over 10 million pounds per year. Every square yard contains a minimum of 18% pre-consumer recycled content and a minimum of 15% bio-based renewable content (based on total product weight), significantly reducing the strain on raw materials. Since Unibond U2 is also a lot lighter, less fuel is needed for shipping and less human energy goes into installation. Once it has been installed, a lifetime non pro-rated warranty ensures users of a lifetime of superior performance-the industry's most comprehensive warranty.

A backing that lives life over again.

For Unibond U2, however, one lifetime isn't enough. That's because Unibond U2 is closed loop recyclable. This means it can be completely recycled back into itself at the end of its life, instead of being thrown away into a landfill. It's a perfect example of what sustainability experts call "closed-loop recycling." And, it's the kind of innovation that translates into major benefits for the producer, the consumer, and the planet.
