A breath of fresh air

Improving indoor air quality

One of the most important factors in determining a carpet's impact on indoor air quality (IAQ) is the amount volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that it emits. That's why the carpet industry and the Carpet and Rug Institute developed Green Label Plus certification. It's an independent testing and certification program for carpets, cushions, and adhesives that measures each product's level of VOC emissions and awards certification to those that meet its exacting requirements. It's a way of helping architects, builders, specifiers, and facility managers easily identify which products are the best for IAQ.

Stringent requirements

So how does it work? To receive certification, products must pass a rigorous 14-day testing process that measures emissions levels for a variety of different chemicals using state-of-the-art Environmental Chamber technology. In addition, carpets and adhesives must undergo regular quarterly and annual tests to maintain certification.

Excellent results

The Carpet and Rug Institute set a high standard for VOC emission. And Mohawk has risen to the challenge. All of The Mohawk Group's commercial products pass the CRI Green Label Plus certification for VOC emissions. This means that choosing Mohawk carpet products is a choice to improve indoor air quality. And it's a choice that is being recognized more and more by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and the Green Guide for Health Care, both of which award points for CRI Green Label Plus certified products.
