Construction

Less is more. And we're proving it at Mohawk with our unique approach to manufacturing and sustainability. Through dematerialization and micro-engineering, we're using less materials to make our products while still maintaining - and even increasing - our high performance standards. Less means more trees in the forest, more bottles saved from landfills, and more carpet produced from the same amount of raw materials. Whether it's through the inherent strength of our woven carpet or our innovative breakthroughs in tufted construction, our superior construction can add years to the life of a carpet - years that keep more carpet on the floor and less in landfills.

  • Micro-Engineering – Attention to detail through micro-engineering means less materials are required to make our outstanding quality carpets. Thanks to our investment in fine-gauge tufting machines, we're able to reduce the overall amount of carpet face fiber in our carpets, yet still maintain the same aesthetic appeal and overall performance.
  • Dematerialization – Less fiber, yet the same aesthetic appeal and overall performance? That's what dematerialization is all about. We're constantly searching for innovative ways to create our products using fewer resources without sacrificing quality or performance. Our product development teams are focused on doing more with less, e.g. Encycle Backing.
  • Environmentally-friendly construction – Woven construction uses less fiber than other types of construction and performs 300% longer than other carpet construction. The years added to the life of a woven carpet are years that increase its sustainability. We've been leaders in woven carpet experts for over 150 years.
  • Recycled content combined with high-performance – For tufted carpets, our UPSre and UPSre Bloc both contain significant amounts of post-consumer recycled content and are CRI Green Label Plus certified for VOC emissions. In addition to containing recycled content, these innovative earth-friendly products bring enhanced performance to the floor, lengthening the life of carpets.
