24 million pounds of waste diverted each year

Exactly how much virgin material goes into the manufacture of our synthetic cushions? Very little. Approximately 90% of the material used to make our synthetic cushions comes from pre-consumer waste that has been converted into raw materials. At our production facilities, we convert 24 million pounds of waste into quality underlayment for all types of carpet.

Recycling enough waste to cover 17,000 football fields

Altogether, we have produced 110 million square yards of synthetic cushion from waste material. That enough carpet pad to cover well over 17,000 football fields - and we created all of it without using a single pound of virgin fiber. Because we're such a large manufacturer, the choices we make in our materials and manufacturing processes can have an enormous impact on the environment. At Mohawk, we're working to make sure this impact is always a good one.
