Green At Work

Community Initiatives

For all our emphasis on sustainability, on supporting and protecting our natural environment, we also recognize that we haven't done our job well unless we're working just as hard to support and protect the people who live in that environment. So, we're constantly looking for better ways to help our employees and our communities. This commitment has led to our engagement in a wide variety of social and community focused efforts. We're especially committed to helping build a better, more sustainable future for the underprivileged individuals in our communities. Here are a few examples of our current community initiatives.

  • Easter Seals – We provide valuable and meaningful employment for many people with physical or mental disabilities by employing Easter Seals clients. In fact, these clients produce thousands of sample folders for Mohawk every week.
  • Susan G. Komen – We created our own "Specify for a Cure" program to support "Komen for the Cure" in fighting breast cancer. Through this program, we donate 25 cents per square yard of selected carpet that is specified, registered, and sold in the commercial market. To date we have donated over 11 million dollars to this worthwhile cause.
  • United Way – Our partnership with America's largest charity, United Way, allows us to support the widest possible range of charitable organizations in our local communities. We participate in various United Way programs across our more than 200 different facilities.
  • GED Education – We're not only creating valuable employment opportunities in our communities, but also helping our colleagues further their education and advance in their careers by helping them pass the GED exam.
  • Volunteer Programs – We believe in volunteerism and encourage our employees to be involved in their communities. We're proud to see that the many volunteer activities of our employees are as varied and diverse as our workforce itself, and we strive to support their community involvement as much as possible - for example, giving employees paid time off to serve in capacities such as volunteer firefighters.
